Seeing Jesus Clearly

Matthew 11 and Mark 8:14–30 both deal with the question of seeing Jesus for who He truly is.

In Matthew 11, John the Baptist wrestles with doubt and sends his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting?” Jesus answers by pointing to what He is doing—the blind see, the lame walk, the sick are healed, and the good news is preached to the poor. John is invited to judge Jesus by the evidence of God’s work rather than by unmet expectations.

In Mark 8:14–30, the disciples repeatedly struggle to understand Jesus. Mark places their spiritual confusion beside the healing of a blind man who gradually begins to see clearly. The section reaches its climax when Jesus asks, “Who do you say I am?” and Peter responds, “You are the Messiah.”

Together, these passages show that seeing Jesus clearly often means moving through questions, confusion, and incomplete understanding until we recognize Him for who He really is. That fits well with the sermon title “Seeing Jesus Clearly.”
